A new magnesite beneficiation plant, newly introduced to the industry in Türkiye, has been successfully commissioned. The plant’s main process scenario includes crushing, screening, magnetic separation, hand sorting, storage, and loading steps.
Magnesite is widely used across a broad range of industries such as paper, plastics, construction materials, ceramics, glass, cosmetics, agriculture (as a fertilizer and feed additive), and environmental applications (such as water and flue gas treatment). Additionally, due to its high thermal resistance and chemical inertness, it holds significant importance as a refractory material in the iron and steel industry. Magnesite (MgCO₃) ores of ultramafic rock origin often contain iron minerals such as magnetite and hematite, in addition to silicate-based gangue minerals like serpentine (Mg₆Si₄O₁₈H₈). Thanks to these iron minerals, it becomes possible to efficiently separate gangue minerals like serpentine, which have low magnetic susceptibility, from MgCO₃.
Among the plant’s main equipment, BAS High-Intensity Perm-Roll Magnetic Separators (Perm Roll Magnetic Separators – BAS®) generate effective magnetic field strengths of 13,000 Gauss over the belt, enabling efficient and sharp removal of weakly magnetic gangue minerals. For ore feeds with two different particle sizes (up to 60 mm), high-intensity Double-stage roll magnetic separators with a 250 mm diameter are in operation. Equipped with advanced N52 magnets, optimized magnetic roll design, and high-speed PU/PVC belt technology, the system offers long service life, easy maintenance, and fast belt replacement ensuring user-friendly operation. The entire system is continuously monitored and controlled via SCADA- and PLC-supported automation infrastructure, delivering high efficiency and uninterrupted operation.
